How does your money talk support your financial future?
We recently hosted a workshop to talk about money. We considered questions about how money was approached when we were young children and what money lessons we took away from those experiences. We talked about if that approach serves us as adults. Often, our childhood experiences of money do not truly help us get to our future financial dream.
Money is a difficult topic.
For some people, money talk is awkward. For others, it can seem tacky or rude. And others still, it is taboo to discuss money at all. How much of your baggage about money talk comes from an unexamined relationship with money, or years of being told what’s “proper” and what’s not when it comes to money?
We’re in the business of money talk.
We are in the business of helping you understand how your approach to your money supports your financial future. We know that there’s no planning for the future without it.
What’s more, it can be a real pleasure to talk about money. What could be more empowering than connecting numbers on paper to one’s real life? Talking about your money can be empowering and supportive, and build your confidence in your future dreams.
When you talk with us, we are not going to make you check any baggage at our door, but we do want you to hear this:
Can you imagine having a planning conversation that wasn’t personal, though?
Consider us coming together to enter a swimming pool: there is a deep end and a shallow end. You can choose whatever end you want. Financial planning is an invitation to intimacy, but depth is a complete choice.
Your financial goals will not look like your neighbor’s or your best friend’s or your brother’s. They are uniquely yours. And so truly, you get out what you put in. You can “bob” around in the shallow end and get a few things together. But the deeper you go, the more value you’ll find. And know, if you have trouble, you have us to help you lighten some of the baggage that’s weighing you down.
Yes, talking about your financial goals takes practice — just like learning to swim. And it gets easier and more enjoyable! Anyone who has floated in a cool pool mid-summer knows how relaxing and invigorating it can be. Yes, getting comfortable talking about the intimate topic of YOUR financial future is freeing.
So we ask the question: Does it serve you now or in the future to NOT talk about your money? If the answer is no, then let us help you take some steps to planning your financial future.
