What Makes you Happy? Apparently having a financial advisor does.

It is Springtime. That makes us happy. But there’s also been a lot of talk recently about happiness recently. Sometimes we find ourselves thinking that the world has become a unkind place, a place where neighbors enjoy being mean to each other. And it feels good to hear the other side, the side that says, people are happier and kinder than they were three years ago.

The world is a happier place.

And you are in it. The World Health Organization publishes an annual “Happiness Report.” The 2023 World Happiness Report found that the world has become a kinder and more generous place. People in the United States are actually happier now than they were in 2019. We think this good news is worth sharing.

Additionally, there’s a been a couple of recent studies on money and happiness. We usually think and often say ‘money can’t buy happiness.” But these new studies put that that old saying into question.

The first one is not totally focused on money itself but on financial advisors. A new survey from Herbers & Company 2021 Consumer Financial Behaviors Study identified four core factors that make people happier: fulfillment, intention, impact and gratefulness. For financial consumers, fulfillment, intention, impact and gratefulness contribute to overall happiness.

The study reveals that people who’ve hired a financial advisor are nearly three times happier with their life than others.

The research found that all four happiness factors are heightened among 66% of consumers who work with a financial advisor, versus 34% of those who do not. In other words, people who hire a financial advisor were statistically happier than those who don’t—by a wide margin. This held true even when

controlling for gender, age, income, and asset levels. It also so appears that working with a financial advisor accelerates happiness in other key areas of our lives. People who have financial advisors are not only happier with their finances, but they are also far happier about their personal relationships and their communication with their partners. While it’s possible that happy couples might be more likely to hire financial advisors, it’s also possible that working
with a financial advisor gives couples an opportunity to talk about financial goals, and thereby gives them a happiness boost.

We hope that your happiness level continues to increase. Spring weather we hope helps that. And knowing that you have a financial advisor who listens, takes action and supports you in building your confident financial future, we hope helps you too.
